
Carburizer for Steelmaking
The carburizer for steelmaking is generally suitable for the adjustment of carbon content in the process of smelting ordinary carbon steel or special steel in steel plants.
In the process of steel smelting, due to improper ingredients or charging and excessive carburization, sometimes the carbon content in the steel does not meet the technical requirements. At this time, the molten steel needs to increase carbon. When smelting medium and high-carbon steel grades in a converter, petroleum coke with little impurity content is used as a carburizer. The requirement for the carburizer for top-blown converter steelmaking is to have high fixed carbon, low ash, volatile, and sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen and other impurities, and be dry, clean, and moderate in particle size. The carburant is used in the smelting of the intermediate frequency electric furnace. It can be added to the lower part of the electric furnace according to the proportion or carbon equivalent requirements. The absorption rate can reach more than 90%; if the carbon amount is insufficient and the carbon equivalent needs to be adjusted, the slag in the furnace should be cleaned first , Add carburant, heat up the molten iron, electromagnetic stirring or manual stirring to disintegrate and absorb the carbon. The absorption rate can be about 80%. When it is low, all the carbon raiser are added to the molten iron at one time, and the solid charge is used to press it into the molten iron to prevent it from exposing the surface of the molten iron. This method can increase the carbon content of molten iron by more than 1.0%. Therefore, when the carbon raiser is smelted in the induction furnace, it is different according to the process requirements. There are three types of carbon additive currently used in steel mills:
1. Coal-based carbon additive: The composition is generally C: 90-93%, S0.3-0.5%. The absorption rate is relatively high between 60-75%, which is mainly used by steel-making enterprises. Advantages: low price. Disadvantages: low carbon content, slow melting, waste of electricity, large residual amount, and large usage.
2. Calcined petroleum coke carbon raiser: The composition is generally C: 96-98.5%, S<0.5% is more, and the absorption rate is above 90%. Advantages: Petroleum coke carburizer is processed by calcination and purification at a high temperature of more than 1200 degrees Celsius. It has less impurities, reasonable price, and high absorption rate. It is one of the most effective and cost-effective carburizer materials used in steel plants. Kind of carburizer.
3. Graphitized carburant: The composition is generally C: 98-99.5%, S0.03-0.05% is more, and the absorption rate is above 80-90%. Advantages: The graphitization carburant undergoes high temperature treatment and graphitization process. Under the condition of high temperature of 3000 ℃, the shape of carbon molecules changes from an amorphous and irregular arrangement to a regular hexagonal layered structure. The fixed carbon content is high, the nitrogen content is low, the absorption rate is high, and the impurities are low. Therefore, this graphite carburant is easy to decompose and absorb in the molten steel. High-quality steel is used more frequently in steelmaking plants.
