Low-sulfur Carburizer
Low-sulfur carburizer is a carburizer with lower sulfur content, is generally prepared from raw petroleum coke through high-temperature graphitization treatment at a high temperature of 3000°C. This process eliminates organic sulfur and inorganic sulfur in petroleum coke, and the structure of carbon atoms changes from an irregular arrangement to a regular hexagonal layered uniform arrangement.
The proportion of synthetic cast iron in the total amount of all cast iron materials is increasing day by day. One of the reasons is that due to the abundant supply of scrap steel, the price is cheaper than cast iron, which greatly reduces the production cost of synthetic cast iron. However, the increase in the use of scrap steel means that more carburant is required. Correspondingly, the sulfur brought into the molten iron by the carburant will also increase. For castings, sulfur is a harmful element. Generally, the sulfur requirement in gray cast iron is less than 0.1%, the sulfur in ductile iron is less than 0.04%, which requires the use of low-sulfur carburant in the smelting process.
Synthetic cast iron produced by selecting suitable low-sulfur carburizers and using a large amount of scrap steel has advantages in cost and quality compared with cast iron produced by traditional smelting processes. A high-quality carburizer should have the characteristics of moderate particle size, large porosity, and fast absorption; pure chemical composition, high carbon, low sulfur, minimal harmful components, high absorption rate, and good graphite crystal structure of the product. In the production process of synthetic cast iron, carburization technology is the key. Whether the application is reasonable or not will directly affect the carbon absorption rate, the metallographic grade of castings and the production cost. Low-sulfur carburizer has the characteristics of high efficiency, prevention of air pollution, and low carbon volatile content. During the casting process, it has high fixed carbon, low sulfur, and high absorption rate. Its absorption rate is better than similar calcined petroleum coke carburizers. The absorption rate can be higher than 95%.
