The SiC reacts with the oxygen in the liquid slag phase or liquid metal, strongly releasing a large amount of combustion heat, because the formed SiO rapid escape in this case strengthens the kinetic conditions of the reaction. This characteristic is very helpful for the deoxidation process.

Both Si and C contained in SiC have the potential to be oxidized. When the temperature is the same, the potential of the two is approximately the same. Therefore, SiC is not only an excellent deoxidizer for cold air cupolas, but also for hot air cupolas.

The deoxidation of SiC in the induction furnace has a certain influence on the amount of scrap added and its quality, which is between 85% and more than 95%. For the cupola, its significance is small, and the deoxidation effect can only be expressed in general terms. Melting process (including cold air, use of secondary air, oxygen, hot air, acid, alkaline, no lining) and changing factors that are temporarily taken during the melting process all have a significant impact. The desulfurization ability of slag and the deoxidizing effect of SiC are related to each other. The length of the lining life is related to the degree of oxidation of the metal charge (rust formed in the scrap steel) and the influence of the low melting point compounds introduced by the charge. Due to the strong ability of SiC in the charge to reduce metal oxides, the negative interference caused by poor conditions can be greatly improved.
