Application Of Silicon Carbide in Casting
May 05, 2022
In recent years, silicon carbide has been used more and more in casting production. According to the use of ourselves and others, the effect is relatively good, especially in smelting, increasing the graphite core, increasing the number of graphite balls in ductile iron, and improving the graphite morphology of grey iron are all very beneficial.
Silicon carbide is widely used abroad. Whether it is an electric furnace or a cupola, this substance is added. Because the melting point of silicon carbide is very high, at about 2700 degrees, the disintegration and absorption temperature is about 1200 degrees, so the dissolution of silicon carbide is melting The state gradually decomposes and the diffusion is relatively slow, so the time to add silicon carbide in the furnace should be earlier than other alloys. Generally, it is added when the charge is smelted to a quarter to half of the furnace, so that it has sufficient temperature and time to decompose.
What are the advantages of using silicon carbide in ductile iron? According to the experience of smelting and use, the preliminary result is that the number of graphite nodules is increased, and the mechanical properties appropriately improved. The shape of graphite becomes thicker and shorter, and the spacing is larger to increase the number of eutectic groups, improve the relative strength and relative hardness of cast iron, and reduce the subcooling of molten iron after inoculation. It is beneficial to replace ferrosilicon with silicon carbide to improve the quality of induction furnace cast iron.
